📖About Self-Sustainable

🔥 Self-Sustainable – A True Survival Challenge

Self-Sustainable overhauls Minecraft’s survival mechanics to create a more challenging and immersive experience. Firestarting is manual, food is scarce, and every action has consequences. Plan your movements, manage your resources wisely, and adapt to a harsher world.


⚔️ Core Gameplay Changes

🔥 Firestarting Overhaul

  • Fire Plough & Bow Drill – New fire-starting tools that require holding down to light fires instead of working instantly.
  • Flint & Steel - It's the current best firestarter and works exactly like the Fire Plough & Bow Drill, though lighting up fires much faster.

🧱 Bricks Overhaul

  • Bricks now must be sun-dried ☀️ or cooked in a oven(after acquiring one)

🍖 Food changes

  • Saturation changes 🍖 – All food items now provide less hunger and no saturation.
  • Raw food penalties 🤮 - Eating raw foods/unintended has a high change of giving the player the hunger effect(renamed to food poisoning).

🏃 Stamina & Exhaustion Changes

  • Periodic exhaustion added ⏳ – Players will lose some hunger over time even when idle, preventing infinite AFK play.
  • Increased exhaustion for movement:
    • Jumping & sprinting now consume more stamina.
    • Sprint-jumping is even more exhausting.
    • This makes early-game movement more strategic.
  • The above increased exhaustion for movement is compatible with the "I'm movens" mod, and is removed when that mod is present, as it enforces even higher exhaustion values.

❤️ Health & Hunger Adjustments

  • Passive Healing 🏥 – Heals ½ heart every 10 seconds if hunger is high enough.
    • If "I'm Movens" mod is installed, healing happens every 30 seconds instead.
  • No full hunger healing ❌ – Difficulty-based healing removed.
  • Cooking takes longer ⏳ – Food now requires more time to cook, making survival harder.

🏕️ Campfire Overhaul

  • Campfire requires fuel 🔥 – Now works like a mini-furnace and can only cook one food item at a time.
  • New Campfire Recipe – Crafted in a 2x2 pattern, making it easier to craft but requiring a firestarter to ignite.

🏺 The "Oven" System (New Furnaces & Smokers)

  • Replacing Furnaces, Blast Furnaces & Smokers – New blocks called "Ovens" will replace them.
    Initially only the Brick Oven will be available, but later on new blocks for the Smoker and Blast Furnace oven variants will be added.
  • Completely GUI-less cooking 🔥 – Ovens will use an interactive, realistic system.
  • Unique functionality per Oven Type – Specific mechanics to make each oven type more engaging and useful.

🕯️ Torches Overhaul

  • Lighting 🔥 – Torches need to be lit to produce light. Unlit torches will not provide any light.
  • Water & Weather Effects 🌊🌧️:
    • Crude torches will be destroyed and extinguished when submerged in water or rain.
    • Normal Torches (infinite) will be extinguished in water, but can be lit again and don't get put ot in rain.
  • Crafting 🛠️:
    • Basic Torches: Crafted using the original Minecraft recipe. These torches will burn out after 20 minutes.
    • Infinite Torches: Crafted with the original recipe, plus Glowstone Dust added in a 3x3 crafting grid. These torches burn indefinitely.

️🌲🔥 Burn Time Adjustments

  • Logs are now the primary fuel source and many fuel item times have been changed.

🏚️ World Generation & Structure Changes

  • Villages now spawn only Zombie Villagers 🧟.
  • Zombie Villagers:
    • Do not burn in sunlight ☀️❌.
    • Do not despawn quickly, making them a constant threat.
  • Loot Overhaul 🎁 – All world-generated chests have been rebalanced for fairness (no easy loot).
  • Melons removed 🍉❌ – No more Melon patches in world generation or villages.
  • Iron Golems removed 🚫 – No longer spawn in villages.

🐄 Animal changes

  • Passive Mobs No Longer Respawn 🐄❌ – Players must breed & preserve existing animals instead of relying on infinite spawns.

🔮 Planned Features

📝 Miscellaneous Changes

  • Wooden blocks (besides logs) will break into sticks if mined with an axe lower than Iron (Planned Feature).
  • Major mod changes - This mod is pretty extensive and changes a lot, so it's quite likely that until full release some of its features will be moved to individual mods/datapacks.

Self-Sustainable reshapes Minecraft survival, forcing players to plan ahead, manage hunger wisely, and respect nature’s limits. With strategic movement, realistic firestarting, and a tougher world, every choice matters.
