Dark Doppelganger
A high-difficulty boss mod for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 inspired by dark magic, spellcasting combat, and multi-phase encounters and Heavily by Irons Spells and Spellbooks!
The Dark Doppelganger is a powerful spell-casting enemy that mirrors player strength, summons minions, and escalates as the fight goes on.
🧿 The Dark Doppelganger Boss
The Dark Doppelganger is a multi-phase boss fight designed for experienced players.
Boss Features
- Multi-phase combat with increasing difficulty
- Spellcasting melee and ranged attacks
- Teleports back from the void if knocked off the world
- Summons hostile minions during combat
- Dynamic boss music and boss health bar
- Scales stats and abilities based on configuration
- Designed for multiplayer encounters (supports multiple players fighting at once)
🔮 Boss Phases
- Phase 1: Standard spellcasting and melee attacks
- Phase 2: Increased aggression and new spell combinations
- Final Phase: Frequent minion summoning, life-drain abilities, and high pressure combat
The boss cannot be cheesed easily and is intended to feel like an end-game encounter.
👁️ Minions
The Dark Doppelganger can summon hostile minions during the fight.
Minion Behavior
- Attack players aggressively
- Do NOT attack the boss or other boss minions
- Automatically choose nearby players as targets
- Despawn when the boss is defeated
- Not player-owned and cannot be controlled
Minions are designed to pressure players, not act as companions.
Custom Items
- Shadow Orb - Summon Doppelganger item
- Doppelganger - Ring +150 Mana +30 Health
- Elder's Necklace - +200 Mana +25% Eldritch Spell Power
- Summoner Necklace - +225 Mana +25% Summon Damage
📜 Custom Spells
This mod includes two custom spells, used by the boss and its minions.
- Jump Portal - Jump/evade fast spell
- Summon Minion - Lets you summon your own minion
⚠️ Important
Summon Minion spell is NOT learnable by players and does not appear in the Scroll Forge.
These spells are used exclusively by the Dark Doppelganger and its summons, but defeating the boss gives you a chance at a spell drop!

How to Summon the Dark Doppelganger
⚠️ The Dark Doppelganger is intended to be a dangerous encounter.
- Use a Shadow Orb in the End. Throw it into the void.
